'Rurouni Kenshin' Manga Game Now Open for Pre-registrations

Bandai Namco will be turning the classic manga to anime adaptation "Rurouni Kenshin," also known as "Samurai X," into a mobile game for the Android and iOS. The game adaptation, set for release sometime later this year, is already accepting pre-registrations.

On Feb. 13, fans of the "Rurouni Kenshin" series was greeted with an announcement by Shueisha's Jump SQ magazine of the news. Bandai Namco, which does a lot of anime-to-game adaptations for franchises like "Naruto," "Inuyasha," "Jojo's Bizarre Adventure" and "One Piece," has picked up Nobuhiro Watsuki's manga for a mobile game adaptation.

The title for the game has been announced, and it is rather long — "Rurouni Kenshin, Meiji Kenkaku Romantan: Kengeki Kenran." The teaser announcement includes an image of a sword plunged into the spring grass as cherry blossoms float by, along with a tagline that translates to "I will cut open a path to the future with my sword."

Little else is known about the game itself, other than the fact that it is set to launch for Android and iOS systems. No mention of the gameplay mechanics or game genre has been made as of this time. The link from the announcement just leads to a simple pre-registration page, in which a user is given the choice between Android or iOS.

The pre-registration is free of charge and simply requires the user to supply an email address or a Twitter account handle. A choice of system is presented first, presumably because the pre-registration will only allow one operating system (OS) version of the game for every email or Twitter account.

The upcoming game could be based on the new arc of "Rurouni Kenshin" that Watsuki is preparing for a spring release. Meanwhile, pre-registrants may receive the updates about the game as it is being developed by Bandai Namco.
