Samsung at MWC 2017: Galaxy S7 Edge Brings Home 'Best Smartphone of 2016' Award
Samsung got off to a good start at the Mobile World Congress this week. Their current smartphone flagship, the Galaxy S7 Edge, has just won the Best Smartphone of 2016 award under the Best Mobile Handsets and Devices category.
Aside from being a culmination of events for new devices and mobile innovation, MWC also holds the Global Mobile Awards every year. Awards are determined and given by the Global System for Mobile Communications Association.
With this award, despite the debacle that Samsung faced last year, they are still proving to be one of the top contenders in the smartphone market.
On Monday, Samsung confirmed that they have received the award and recognition. "We are honored to be recognized for our craftsmanship in design and innovation with the Galaxy S7 edge," said Junho Park, Samsung's vice president of global product strategy and mobile communications business, in an official news release.
Park added, "This award is a testament to our constant pursuit of excellence as we continue to exceed consumers' expectations through revolutionary mobile technology."
In the same news release, Samsung also mentioned that they believe the recognition was awarded to the Galaxy S7 Edge because of its "refined design, advanced camera and outstanding performance."
The South Korean electronics giant also promised to continue to work on bringing out products with the best hardware and software specifications for their customers around the globe.
Back in October 2016, Samsung needed to officially halt the production of the Galaxy Note 7 while recalling all of the line's sold units around the world. With this, Samsung persuaded affected customers to go back to using either the Galaxy S7 or S7 Edge.
The Galaxy S7 Edge, which was released in March 2016, sports a 5.5-inch curved edge display. It is one of the first devices to feature the IP68 protection that makes it safe even when submerged in 1.5 meter-deep water for 30 minutes. Its chipset can run up to 2.3 gigahertz paired with a 4 GB random access memory.
Samsung is expected to launch its successor, the Galaxy S8, anytime soon.
