Samsung Galaxy Alpha Release Date: Fans Might Still Get New Device Within 2014

Samsung's flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S5 is a premium phone with high-end specs and a high-resolution screen. This, however, is not enough for Samsung to stand up on top of the smartphone market. A lot of other manufacturers are close behind and the South Korean tech giant would need something new to stay ahead.

Unlike Apple's iPhone 5 or HTC's One M8, the Samsung Galaxy S5 feels cheap in terms of build quality as the body is mainly made of plastic. The Galaxy S5 is also beat by the LG G3 in terms of screen resolution, with the G3 offering a QHD display compared to the S5's Full HD display.

In order to compete with its competitors, Samsung is already preparing the Galaxy Alpha or Galaxy Prime in South Korea with the important points covered; a larger screen/screen resolution and a premium design chassis.

Essentially, the Galaxy Alpha is an improved version of the Galaxy S5 and may come in two variants; the Galaxy S5 F and the Samsung Galaxy S5 Alpha. Nothing is set in stone yet and changes can be made by the company at any time before initial unveiling.

Initially, the Galaxy Prime was set to be released sometime mid-June but the window has already closed. July has ended as well and it will be unlikely that the market will see the Prime release for August. Rumors are that the Galaxy Prime will be announced sometime in September.

A worldwide release, however, is uncertain as there are rumors that a working prototype or alpha build is difficult to get hold of. Having to increase the screen size to accommodate the QHD display, Samsung has had trouble building the phone.

Samsung is also reportedly having difficulties producing the metal cases for the phone meaning only a limited number of phones will be built. The limitation might even make the Galaxy Prime a South Korean exclusive release.

A definite release date is unknown but there are speculations that the phone will definitely come out this year, in one way or another.
