Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Battery Problems: Fix and Solutions to Extend Battery Life

The sleek and stylish Galaxy Note 4 unveiled October last year offered significant improvements from its predecessors but capped the battery bar at less than expected, disappointing users with its poor battery performance.

When Samsung launched its Galaxy Note 4 last Oct. 17, users went overboard over the device's attractive display and powerful processor, plus a sizeable battery that appeared to promise extended usage time. What they weren't expecting was a low performing battery that died down in less than two days of moderate use, despite its aggressively promoted ultra power saving mode.

Its problematic battery life, courtesy of a 2.7 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor and the new Quad HD Super AMOLED technology, has led users to take to forums to seek workarounds over the issue rather than purchase a new phone in its stead.

Apart from configuring Power Saving in Ultra saving mode under Settings, users may have to periodically restart the Note 4 to arrest battery drain-out.

The usual battery struggle solutions apply, including turning off features like WiFi and GPS when not in use, lowering the screen's brightness and turning the phone's volume down, turning off vibrate mode, and updating periodically.

Downloaded apps are one known battery leech. Digital Trends recommends installing Greenify, a well-reviewed free Android app that identifies rogue applications and force hibernates them when not in use. Another option includes reverting to factory settings and reinstalling apps more selectively to avoid having a battery-hungry device.

Tech-savvy users who have rooted their Note 4 can install UzumApps' Wakelock Detector which provides a power management mechanism that detects battery draining apps and prompts users to remove unnecessary bloatware.

Samsung is currently gearing up to roll out its Android 5.0 Lollipop update containing fixes to the Galaxy Note 4's noted glitches and problems. With additional new features and enhancements, it is the phone's first major Android 4.4 KitKat update. Meanwhile Galary Note 4 users will have to rely on quick solutions to fix their battery life issues until the update is released later in the year.
