Samsung Galaxy Note 7 News and Updates: Supply Shortage Underway; Galaxy S6 Edge Insufficiency Repeating Itself? Specs and Price Details
Samsung faces supply problems as Galaxy Note 7 demands exceed pre-order expectations. This urges the tech company to increase production and push release dates in certain countries.
Pushing release dates
The Korean tech company is struggling to meet the demands for the Galaxy Note 7, which was released only on August 19. A statement by Samsung stated that this is due to oversights in estimating the pre-order expectations for the smartphone, which they seek to remedy through adjusting release dates in some markets.
This global supply constraint has been affecting several countries now. Delayed release of the device is now in effect in the Netherlands, Russia, Ukraine, and Malaysia, among others. Some markets have been pushed back to as far as the end of September for the launch date.
Fortunately, the pre-orders made during the initial period would still be honored by Samsung. As of yet, no indication is out whether Samsung would be able to meet demands in US and Korea.
Managing the deficit
In light with the Note 7 shortage, Samsung has stated that it has increased its production. However, no exact figures were given. As its predecessor, the Galaxy Note 5, managed to sell only $9 million last year, analysts forecast that the Note 7 will manage to sell at least $15 million this year.
The supply deficit, however, is not an unfamiliar territory for Samsung. Last year, the Galaxy S6 Edge faced the same insufficiency problems due to production difficulties with its curved display. This then turned into disappointing sales turnout for the tech company.
This possible repeat was immediately dismissed by Samsung, saying that they have no problems with the display production. The company's fault was at the estimation of the demand given last year's iteration having relatively low sales. The statement also said that they are now quickly attending to the problem, with supplies being produced on the fly.
Others attribute the news of supply shortage to marketing tactics. They say that Samsung is building up hype for the Galaxy Note 7 by making the consumers perceive a degree of marketability.
