Samsung clearly stepped up their game this year when they launched their best smartphones yet. Now that the Galaxy Note 7 has been released, people have been pointing out its similarities with its older sibling, the Galaxy S7 Edge.

Both phones come with Samsung's very own Super AMOLED display with Quad-HD (1440 x 2560) resolution. The main difference between the two is the screen size, with the Galaxy Note 7 sporting the usual 5.7-inch screen while the Galaxy S7 Edge has a 5.5-inch display.
The two devices also have curved displays, but the Note 7's sloping edge is a bit steeper than the S7 Edge, giving it more flat screen real estate. This proves to be handier for practical usage and thus, giving the win to the Note.
Hardware and Build Quality: Galaxy Note 7
Once again, the two devices share a lot of common hardware features. These include the metal and glass overall build, the IP68 certification for water resistance and dust proofing, and a fast fingerprint scanner. Where the S7 Edge gets the upper hand is in its small size, making it somewhat easier to handle.
The Note 7 still takes the cake though as it packs more hardware technologies. To start, the front and back panels are covered with Gorilla Glass 5 for enhanced protection from shattering. It also has an iris scanner for improved security, an additional unlocking option to the usual fingerprint and passcodes. Lastly, there is the Note lineup staple, the S-Pen. The improved pen tip gains more sensitivity and can detect pressure better than previous iterations.

The two phones come with Qualcomm's own top-notch mobile chipset, the Snapdragon 820. Both devices also use the Adreno 530 for graphics. Backed by 4GB of RAM and 32GB or 64GB of internal storage (expandable via a microSD), the Note 7 and S7 Edge can surely to sail through any task smoothly.
Software Experience: Galaxy Note 7
Granted that both devices run Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow with the latest TouchWiz UI on top, the software experience is identical. Edge features are also present in the two smartphones. However, the Galaxy Note 7 integrates the S-Pen into its software features, with capabilities to take screenshots, annotate photos, write memos, draw and sketch, capture GIF animations, translate words, or even magnify the screen. It also expands the Always-On display features for more customizability.
Battery: Tie
The Galaxy S7 Edge includes a 3600 mAh battery, while the Note 7 comes with a slightly smaller 3500 mAh one. Being the smaller device and sporting a larger battery, the S7 Edge could easily outlast the Note 7, but the latter packs power-saving features that allow for the scaling down of its display resolution to last longer.
Camera: Tie
Again, the two devices are equipped with the similar 12-megapixel, f/1.7 rear camera with phase detection autofocus, Optical Image Stabilization, and LED flash. They record videos in 4K resolution, in slow-motion, and HDR. The selfie snappers are similar 5-megapixel, f/1.7 cameras. Samsung's mobile cameras are deemed to be one of the best in the industry, so top-notch quality photos are to be expected from these two.
Price: Galaxy S7 Edge
With price adjustments, the S7 Edge can now be bought at around $600 unlocked for the 32GB version. Meanwhile, the newly release Note 7 starts retailing at $850, both unlocked and through carriers.
