Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus Release Date, Specs News: Samsung's Dual-Edged Phone Similar to Predecessor

Just like what was mentioned in the rumors, Samsung has indeed introduced a couple of new smartphones today, named the Galaxy Note 5 and the Galaxy S6 Edge+.

However, for Samsung and Android fans who might have been waiting for something revolutionary in the Galaxy S6 Edge+, you may be a little bit disappointed.

According to a report by The Verge, the Android-powered device mostly copies the specs of its predecessor, which was launched less than six months ago. In fact, even the design cues are similar, which isn't exactly a bad thing, especially that the Galaxy S6 Edge won design of the year honors at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

Here's a quick rundown of the specs in case you have forgotten the specs list of the S6 Edge:

  • 5.7-inch Super AMOLED dual edge display (2560 x 1440)
  • Samsung's Exynos 7420 SoC (Quad-core 1.5 GHz Cortex-A53 & Quad-core 2.1 GHz Cortex-A57)
  • 4GB RAM
  • 16MP primary camera with f/1.9, OIS, phase detection auto focus
  • 5MP front camera
  • Fingerprint sensor
  • Android 5.1 Lollipop
  • 3,000mAh battery
  • 32GB/64GB non-expandable storage

As we can all see, there's not much difference between the Galaxy S6 Edge and the S6 Edge+, except for the higher RAM, and slightly bigger battery. In fact, in the report, the newer dual edge device is slightly thinner at 6.9mm compared to the older version.

In addition, the new Galaxy S6 Edge+ boasts some new features on the software side. According to the report, this includes "Apps Edge," a new feature that enables the user to quick launch recently used apps from the display's edge.

Another new addition is the tweak for the shortcut tab, which now works in all windows, not just on the home screen. This will make it easier for users to navigate and multi-task -- something that the Galaxy S6 Edge was very good at.

Finally, the smartphone allows users to live stream straight from the camera app. In the report, users can schedule streams, or even create them on the spot.

In the report, pre-orders for the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+ begins today, and would be available in U.S. carrieres by Aug. 21.
