Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge vs Apple iPhone 7: Who Wins the Battle of Cameras?

The current flagships from the top smartphone makers in the world, Samsung and Apple, are the Galaxy S7 Edge and iPhone 7, respectively. And in this digital age where people always want to capture things around them with a simple click, it is important to ask which of the mentioned devices has the better camera.

As for the technical aspect, both the Galaxy S7 Edge and iPhone 7 sport a 12-megapixel camera on the rear. However, Apple might have a tad of an advantage over Samsung since the iPhone 7's camera has a 28-millimeter f/1.8 aperture compared to the Galaxy S7 Edge's 26mm f/1.7 specification.

In photography, aperture is the technical term for measuring the camera's opening where the light travels through. Thus, bigger aperture usually means brighter photos. However, it is important to note that there are other factors to consider in determining a quality photo by a good camera.

On the other hand, both smartphones' rear-facing shooters are also packed with premium features such as phase detection, a light-emitting diode flash and optical image stabilization. Both are also capable of capturing 4K videos and other quality resolutions varying from 2,160 pixels at 30 frames per second, 1,080p at 30 fps, and 720p at 240 fps.

Meanwhile, for the selfie camera, the iPhone 7 might have the slight advantage. Apple equipped their standard flagship with an 7 MP shooter and a brighter 32mm f/2.2 aperture. On the other hand, the Galaxy S7 Edge sports a 5 MP front sensor.

Despite the technical figures slightly favoring the iPhone 7, earlier reviews claim that they do not ensure better outputs compared to photos taken with the Galaxy S7 Edge just like in the comparison made by Business Insider.

According to another earlier review from GSM Arena, the iPhone 7's camera promise a 60 percent faster and 30 percent better camera system from Apple. Added to that, the True Tone technology incorporated in the device enabled it to produce better photos than its predecessor, the iPhone 6s.

On the other hand, International Business Times claims that the Galaxy S7 Edge possesses a well-balanced color rendering. The report claims that its rear shooter is able to deliver natural-looking images with accurate highlights and shadow details and despite the bigger technical figures of iPhone 7's front-facing camera, the report also guarantees that selfies with the Galaxy S7 Edge are "surprisingly better."
