Samsung Galaxy S7 Release Date, Specs News: Early 2016 Launch Rumored

Things are heating up again in the race to release the next big flagship phone. With 2015 drawing to a close, it looks like 2016 will be bringing with it the release of smartphones that not only look good but also perform well. With the Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge, Samsung has regained its foothold in the smartphone industry somewhat and the company may want it to remain that way. If reports are true, its next flagship, the Samsung Galaxy S7 is shaping up to be a flagship to beat in 2016.

According to a TechRadar report, the latest news about when the new device is going to be unveiled says that a January or an early February release may be possible. This is of course earlier than when Samsung usually announces its new devices at the yearly Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, which happens every March. One report specified the release date to be January 19. This January release date is also supported by other rumors about Samsung starting production of the S7 earlier than scheduled and the early development of firmware which may indicate an early release as well.

In terms of design, the report speculates that Samsung may not be implementing any major redesign given the success of the redesign of its previous flagship, the S6 and the S6 Edge. However, the material that it will use for the S7 may be different as some reports are claiming that Samsung is working on a magnesium-based alloy that will be light and will be heat-resistant as well. Another design rumor also indicates that the phone will have a metal and glass build and will have a non-removable battery this time to keep the design sleek.

In terms of screen size, the S7 is rumored to come in two different sizes: one with a 5.2-inch screen and the other a bigger, 5.8-inch screen. One of these devices will reportedly have a 4K display. According to the report, a benchmark has recently appeared on a phone that is rumored to be the S7 which has a 5.7-inch screen with a 1,440 x 2,560 Quad HD resolution.

With Samsung announcing a new BRITECELL camera, this may mean that the S7 will be the first phone to be equipped with this new camera. This camera is said to take better pictures in low light situations and is relatively smaller than the S6 camera.

The device is expected to run on the latest Android Marshmallow OS. As for the device's processor, some rumors say that the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset will power it, and it will be paired with 4 GB of RAM.

The Galaxy S7 is also rumored to do one better than the S6, which is to offer microSD support for expandable memory. One report says that through a microSD card, memory can be expanded to up to 128 GB.

Given that the device is turning out to be a high-end, premium smartphone, the report speculates that Samsung will likely sell it for nothing less than the release price of the S6 which is somewhere around $650 or £600.
