Samsung Galaxy S7 Release Date, Specs & Rumors: Expected in January, To Feature 12 MP Camera?

Samsung is gearing up once again to launch a new flagship phone, the Galaxy S7. It hasn't been a year yet since the tech giant released its predecessor, the Galaxy S6, but it seems like they are determined to get the sequel out as soon as possible.

According to International Business Times, the upcoming device is rumored to arrive as early as January 2016. The source said that the Galaxy S7 has been finalized since September, thus it's possible that the rumored schedule of release will follow.

It actually deviates from the usual launch schedule of Samsung which is around March, just in time for the yearly Mobile World Congress (MWC). The source also mentioned that the production of the Exynos 8890 chipset, also known as Exynos M1, will start in December. This heightens the chances that the device will arrive early.

There are no details yet on the accurate specs of the flagship smartphone but rumors say that it will sport a 5.1-inch display with AMOLED technology, just like the Galaxy S6. PC Advisor reported that the latest rumors from Weibo suggest that the device will also be equipped with an iPhone-like Force Touch display which utilizes a technology known as ClearForce.

But the biggest question right now is how many megapixels will the Galaxy S7 rear camera carry? Reports have already been contradicting one another. While the Galaxy S6 sports a brilliant 16-megapixel camera, the S7 was first rumored to have a whopping 30-megapixel camera. However, recent reports say that the South Korean company will take a step back by launching the device with 12-megapixel primary camera.

Tech Radar noted that Galaxy S7 will have fewer megapixels but it will have a bigger sensor which is said to be rather large by phone standards by being 1/2" in size. If this comes to pass, the primary camera will be able to capture more light. It is also said to come with dual-PD (dual-photodiode) technology to enhance performance.

But nothing has been confirmed yet and there's still a possibility that it will carry through with the previous reports like sticking with the 16-megapixel or Sony's latest high-end Exmor RS IMX300 image sensor. Fans will have to wait and see which Samsung will go for.
