Samsung Galaxy S7 Speculated to Arrive in January, To Come in Two Processor Variants

Those who have been waiting for the Samsung Galaxy S7 are in for a treat as rumors say that it might be unveiled earlier than expected. According to a report by Tech Insider, Samsung's next flagship phone may be announced in January, which deviates from the company's usual launching month.

Samsung's Galaxy S devices are usually launched in March or April. But in order to ramp up competition with Apple in the high-end phone market, they will need to make some changes to their calendar schedule. CNET also reported that the South Korean tech giant had already finalized the design for the smartphone before September ended. Right now, they are reportedly securing the components they will need to start production.

Aside from the rumored schedule shift, Samsung is said to make a change as well in their overall smartphone strategy. As people are already aware, smartphones come in three price categories which are high-end, mid-range and low end. But a fourth tier now exists and it's called as "sub premium," which is the category between mid-range and premium. Samsung is planning to add a smartphone under that tier and Computer World noted that it will be the Galaxy S7.

However, a premium version of the next flagship phone will also be released. Samsung's two-version smartphone strategy has yet to draw results but the company is hoping that it would make things turn around for them since reports say the company has difficulty selling high-end phones against Apple. Moreover, Electronic Times News said that the premium Galaxy S7 will be equipped with a Samsung-made Exynos M1 processor instead of a RAM core.

Also, GSM Arena noted that the S7 is rumored to have frames that will be made from a magnesium alloy. This new alloy will allegedly make the handset sturdier and will give a more premium feel. It is also said to boast a Sabre 9018AQ2M audio chip by ESS Technology, which can make the phone a Hi-Fi powerhouse with superior audio quality.

It's important to know though that none of the details have been confirmed by Samsung yet, as noted by a U.S.-based Samsung spokeswoman via email.
