While the Galaxy S7 came with variants of curved and flat screens, the Galaxy S8 is projected to follow Galaxy Note 7's footsteps and will be released with only one curved-edge screen. Samsung executives seem to be very convinced that their curve display innovation is the new market standard for high-end smartphones as they hinted about the rumor. It is also believed that the standard screen size would be at 5.5-inches.

Along with this, the Galaxy S lineup standard Quad HD resolution of 1440 X 2560 pixels will most likely be bumped up to 4K display resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels. This feature comes in handy with native virtual reality support and the company's Samsung Gear VR headsets. The 4K resolution in a smartphone was first seen in the Sony Xperia Z5 Premium released in 2015. The display was quite an innovation, but largely drew flak from critics due to poor implementation and performance handling.

Hardware Changes

The Galaxy S7 delivered everything that we had hoped for from Samsung. It included killer powerful specifications encased in a very modern and stylish body. The Galaxy Note 7 then came in and dwarfed its sibling. It arrived with features that are reported to be inherited by the Galaxy S8.

For security, the iris scanner will most likely be implemented in the upcoming device. This will boost the lineup's already robust security measures. For the camera setup, Samsung is reportedly testing a new f/1.4 aperture lens on a 1/1.7-inch CMOS sensor. The megapixel count would be somewhere between 18 and 24. This hugely improves on the already superb camera of the Galaxy S7. There are also rumors of a dual-camera setup to compete with LG G5 and the new iPhones.

The internal details include the usage of either Qualcomm's next generation Snapdragon 830 or Samsung's own Exynos 8995. The Galaxy S8 is also rumored to sport up to 6GB of RAM and up to 128GB of internal storage. The new UFS card slots are expected to debut along with the usual microSD card slot. It will most likely run the Android 7.0 Nougat in its latest update version should there be any.

Release Date

As per Samsung tradition, the device will most likely be announced at Mobile World Congress in 2017. This event is usually held on February or March, where other competitors would most likely unveil their new flagships as well.
