Samsung Galaxy S8 Release Date, Leaked Specs: Bezel-Free Design Accommodates Larger Screen; Device To Debut In March

Samsung is getting ready to present the next generation device in their Galaxy S series. However, the Galaxy S8 will not be debuting at the Mobile World Congress in February. Instead, it is set to debut in March, following the Galaxy Note 7 battery debacle.

It can be recalled that the Galaxy Note 7, which was released last year, suffered from spontaneous combustion resulting from subpar batteries. It was a major setback for Samsung, which means the South Korean company has more to prove this year. As a result, they are taking their time with the Galaxy S8 in an attempt to make sure that its quality is beyond acceptable.

The Samsung Galaxy S8 may be released later than usual, but based on some of its leaked specifications, the device may be worth the wait. According to The Guardian, a huge overhaul is in store for the upcoming handheld. Display-wise, the Samsung Galaxy S8 series will have a bigger screen, resulting in an almost bezel-free design. Both offerings - the standard S8 and the larger version - will have curved screens, as opposed to previous iterations wherein only the bigger of the two had it.

Of course, this would also mean that there would be no room for the physical home button and the navigation keys usually found at the front. These are being removed, which would also eliminate the fingerprint scanner from the front display. This feature is reportedly being moved to the back. But the fingerprint scanner is not the only feature for security. An iris scanner, which was also found in the recalled and discontinued Galaxy Note 7, will likewise be present.

Under the hood, the Samsung Galaxy S8 series will run on the latest chipset from Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 835. There will be 64 GB of internal memory, with a microSD slot for up to 256 GB. There is also talk of a new AI assistant, as well as a Continuum-like feature called DeX or desktop extension.

Samsung is expected to release the Galaxy S8 series in late April, with an unveiling set a month earlier. Given its drastic design change and higher-end features, the Samsung Galaxy S8 is poised to be more expensive than any other device in the lineup.

However, since these have not been confirmed as of yet, readers are advised to take this with a grain of salt.
