Samsung Galaxy S9 Specs, Release Date: Samsung Strikes a Deal That Secures Next-Gen Flagship's Advantage Over Competition
Samsung gets dibs on the first batch of Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor for its next big offering, which is the Samsung Galaxy S9.
According to the Russian tech journalist Eldar Murtazin, the South Korean tech firm's upcoming flagships will be the first to come with the next-generation chipset.
Competing manufacturers will have to wait an undisclosed amount of time before they can get their hands on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 for their own products.
This is what Samsung did early this year for the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus. The company purchased every last bit of the Snapdragon 835 processor in the first batch of its production, making the duo the first devices to sport the most powerful chipset to date and forcing competitors to wait it out or go for the last-generation version, which is what LG had to do for the LG G6 due to its early launch.
Samsung's exclusive hold of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 next year will surely again impact LG the hardest since the next G-series smartphone are released around the same time the Samsung Galaxy S9 launches.
Murtazin went on to say that the flagship will be unveiled a month early, which was taken to mean to be around February when considering the March release of the Samsung Galaxy S8 duo.
However, users will remember that Samsung took extra time to put out its current-gen flagships to make sure the Note 7 exploding battery debacle does not happen again. Before that, the company released S-series smartphones during the month of February.
If Murtazin was talking about a release a month earlier than the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus, then the Samsung Galaxy S9 could be made official at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) scheduled February.
If he meant the usual as in the original release pattern, the Samsung Galaxy S9 might be out and about as early as late January.
