Samsung Galaxy S9 Specs to Feature iPhone X Face ID Technology?

Apple made waves when the company revealed the features on the upcoming iPhone X, especially when it comes to the Face ID. Now, a new report says that Samsung is poised to follow its lead.

According to SamMobile, Samsung is looking into upgrading their facial recognition technology with the Galaxy S9 series through the use of a 3D sensor-equipped front camera. The Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+, released earlier this year, both have facial recognition onboard, but some users have pointed out that these are not entirely secure.

The facial recognition technology Samsung has its eye on is reportedly similar to the TrueDepth feature found on the iPhone X. However, since nothing has been officially confirmed thus far, readers are advised to take this news with a grain of salt.

While a lot of Apple fans are eagerly awaiting the arrival of the iPhone X, MacRumors reports that the Cupertino-based tech giant may run into some issues with their supply. According to KGI securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, this is apparently because of production issues related to the TrueDepth technology in the smartphone's Face ID. As a result, there may not be enough supply for the rest of the year to accommodate the growing demand.

Meanwhile, Samsung is already developing the next iteration of their Galaxy S flagship. According to a separate report from SamMobile, two firmwares, G960FXXU0AQI5 and G965FXXU0AQI5, are in the works. This means that there will be two next-generation Galaxy S models: Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+, which have the model numbers SM-G960 and SM-G965, respectively.

As for their release date, it is likely that Samsung will not stray away from their usual pattern. The Samsung Galaxy S8 series was introduced in March earlier this year and subsequently released the following month.

The smartphone industry is heating up, with new models and advancements launched each year. Stay tuned for the latest news and updates.
