Samsung Galaxy X Release Date, Specs Rumors: Foldable Smartphone Arriving in Q3 2017
Samsung may have just unveiled the impressive Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus but it seems that the South Korean tech giant is planning to raise the stakes even higher as the latest reports hint at the release of two more premium devices later this year, one of which is the much-talked-about foldable smartphone called Galaxy X.
According to AndroidGuys, a leakster originating from China recently revealed that the Galaxy X would arrive in the third quarter of 2017 and will be followed by the Galaxy Note 8 in the fourth quarter. There's no guarantee that this timeline is official but the source, who goes by the name @mmddj_china on Twitter, is considered to be reliable.
Furthermore, Samsung usually releases new Galaxy Note devices during the annual IFA trade show, held in the month of September. However, considering the chaos that ensued due to the exploding batteries of the Galaxy Note 7, it is understandable that Samsung would want to push back the launch of its successor to a later date.
Will the Samsung Galaxy X take its place and make an appearance at IFA 2017?
When it comes to the specs of the upcoming foldable smartphone, not much has been revealed. However, initial reports suggest that there will be two variants named Galaxy X1 and Galaxy X1 Plus. The Galaxy X smartphone is said to have a 5-inch form factor that can be transformed into a 7-inch tablet. Meanwhile, just like Samsung's other Plus variants, the Galaxy X1 Plus could come with a much larger display size.
While consumers are thrilled with the possibility of finally seeing and owning the first foldable smartphone in the market, reports also suggest that the Galaxy X will only see a limited release of about 100,000 units. Samsung is believed to be treading carefully and is interested in first gauging the reaction of the consumer market. If all goes well, the device will see a full release in early 2018.
Samsung has not officially announced the Galaxy X so information about its release date and specs should be taken with a grain of salt.
