Samsung Galaxy XCover 4 Release Date, Specs: Device Launched With Military-Grade Durability

Samsung's newest device called the Galaxy XCover 4 with military-grade durability just had a low-key launch at the company's Germany website.

Amid the hype for Samsung's new tablets – the Galaxy Tab S3, Galaxy Book 10 and Galaxy Book 12 – plus the short preview on the Galaxy S8 at the Mobile World Congress this week, reports picked up that its newest outdoor device, the Galaxy XCover 4, has also made its way to the European region. However, its announcement is not as grandiose as the products that appeared in Barcelona, Spain.

In a news release published earlier this week, Samsung Germany reiterated that the Galaxy XCover 4 was created to endure "harsh environments." While several premium smartphones nowadays are already protected from water and dust, what sets the Galaxy XCover 4 apart is its resistance from "extreme temperatures and impacts."

Specifically, the Galaxy XCover 4 acquired the U.S. military standard rating MIL-STD 810G that certifies it can withstand varying temperatures, "mechanical shocks and vibrations, intense sunlight or salt water mist."

"In addition, the outdoor smartphone has a versatile feature and impresses with its sleek design. The Samsung Galaxy XCover 4 will be available in color 'black' at the price of 259 Euro (RRP)," according to the translated news release of Samsung Germany's statement.

Samsung also promised that the Galaxy XCover 4 "can be carried as an outdoor smartphone almost everywhere," reiterating that it was certified with IP68, which makes it protected even when dipped in a 1.5-meter water for 30 minutes. IP68 is the same rate of water and resistance protection that the Galaxy S7 Edge has. However, Samsung also advised consumers to always ensure the SIM card slot is constantly covered.

As for its specifications, the rugged device sports a 5-inch screen with 720 x 1,280 resolution display, a 13-megapixel rear camera and a 5 MP sensor at the front. It will come off the box with Android Nougat, 2 GB random access memory, 16 GB internal memory plus a microSD slot and a 2,800-milliampere hour battery pack.

Reports earlier gathered that the Galaxy XCover 4 had just gotten its Federal Communications Commission certification almost the same day Samsung's Germany website announced the device.

The Galaxy XCover 4 will be released sometime in April.
