Samsung launches Galaxy test drive promo to convert iPhone users

Samsung Electronics has launched a free Galaxy test drive promo in a bid to convince iPhone loyalists in the United States to switch to its brand.

For just $1, iPhone users can try out the Galaxy Note 5, Galaxy S6 Edge, or the Galaxy S6 Edge+ for 30 days without obligations. At the end of the month, they can either return the Samsung smartphone if they are not satisfied or switch to the Galaxy model, if they feel it suits them better, according to Computer World.

Under the terms of the Ultimate Test Drive, Samsung will provide the iPhone customer any of the three Galaxy units, together with an activated SIM and data plan with selected carriers. The customer will pay $1 as the processing fee. If the tester does not return the Galaxy smartphone within 30 days, he or she will be charged the full retail cost of the unit. The test handsets will come with a prepaid shipping box to help facilitate the return of the smartphones, The Verge explains.

Samsung launched the Ultimate Test Drive promo in an effort to overtake Apple in the mobile market, specifically in the category of high-end smartphones. Since Apple released the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus last year, the popularity of Android phones has dropped significantly.

The South Korean tech giant also moved up the release date of the Galaxy Note 5 and the Galaxy S6 Edge+ to allow the two devices to gain a bit of traction over the next iPhones. Apple is expected to release a new set of iPhones in about three weeks, the report details.

This is not the first time that Samsung has launched a similar promo. In 2014, the South Korean smartphone maker placed pop-up stores during a test drive initiative, instead of sending the Galaxy smartphone to the testers.
