Samsung to launch Tizen-powered Galaxy Z3 smartphone globally

Samsung is reportedly preparing to launch the Tizen-powered Galaxy Z3 smartphone globally in its bid to use its homegrown mobile operating system as an alternative to Android and other kinds of OS.

The South Korean tech giant has been continuously developing the Tizen operating system for several years, and some of the smartphones unveiled at this year's Mobile World Congress in Barcelona were already using the OS. With the announcement of the Tizen-powered Gear 2 and Gear Neo, Samsung is indeed gearing up for the global launch of the Tizen OS, according to the Venture Capital Post.

For a start, the tech firm has conducted a launching event in Russia for the Samsung Z, its first smartphone to be powered by Tizen. Samsung's Galaxy lineup is still using Google's Android OS, the report details.

However, most smartphone users are still loyal to Android and iOS, so Samsung may meet quite a challenge here when it comes to attracting users for the Tizen OS. Still, Samsung remains confident with its own OS and has now decided to tap the global market with Tizen.

Tizen-powered smartphones are already available in the market, but the OS has not yet been formally launched globally. Samsung is rumored to use the Tizen OS in the upcoming Galaxy Z3, which will be available worldwide, the report details.

Based on some leaked documents, the Galaxy Z3 will be similar to the Galaxy E and A lineup. It will sport a metal unibody that will give it a sleek appearance. It will also have a 5-inch screen with 1280 x 720 pixel resolution. The upcoming entry-level smartphone will be powered by a 2,300 mAh battery, Geek Snack reports.

The Galaxy Z3 will reportedly run on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 chip alongside the Tizen v3.0 OS. It will also have 8 GB of internal memory that can be expanded up to 64 GB via external microSD slot. The device will also have 1.5 GB of RAM, 8-megapixel rear snapper, and 5-megapixel front camera.

Images and rumors about the first global Tizen smartphone have already been leaked left and right on the Internet, but Samsung has yet to confirm the release date and the estimated price of the Galaxy Z3.
