Samsung Unveils Galaxy Tablet S2
Samsung recently unveiled its latest tablet that is said to go head to head with Apple's iPad. The Samsung Galaxy Tablet S2 is Samsung's thinnest table to date. According to reports, the tablet is said to be the "thinnest and lightest" tablet yet.
The unveiling comes after several leaks started circulating about the new tablet of Samsung. The new tablet will be coming in two size options, the 9.7-inch one and the 8.0-inch one. It is said to be the thinnest, at only 5.6mm and the lightest at only 389 grams. Apple's iPad is slightly thicker at 6.1mm.
In an official press release about the new device, Samsung's CEO and President of IT & Mobile Division JK Shin said, "the Galaxy Tab S2 gives users quick, easy access to a wealth of superior viewing and productivity features. We believe the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 is the most complete personal visual device designed for consumers to carry and use anywhere."
Among its productivity features is the pre-installed Microsoft Office Solutions which comes with 100 GB of file storage via OneDrive cloud, free for two years. It has multitasking features, which allows the user to look at or view two apps simultaneously. It will be equipped with a built-in trackpad for easier use and will be compatible with the advanced Book Cover Keyboard, which is a Galaxy Tab accessory already available in the market.
Under the hood, it is powered by a 64-bit octa-core processor, which is made up of Quad 1.9GHz and a Quad 1.3GHz, and 3 GB of RAM for "a fast and responsive performance." Like Apple devices, it will come with a touch-enabled Fingerprint Scanner that will allow users easy access by a simple press of the home key.
The tablet's display specifications is a Super AMOLED display with a QXGA 2,048 by 1,536 pixels resolution, and this will be available for both tablet sizes. Camera-wise, the S2 only has an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera and a 2.1-megapixel front-facing camera. The tablet will have an LTE and Wi-Fi variant and a Wi-Fi only variant. The 9.7-inch tablet will have a 5,870mAh battery, while the smaller 8-inch version will only have 4,000mAh capacity. Internal storage options are 32 GB and 64 GB, expandable to 128 GB via microSD.
Samsung has not shared how much the new tablet will be, but it will hit stores sometime in August.
