Samsung Unveils Xcover 2: Smartphone Features Waterproof Design

Samsung unveiled the new Xcover 2 smartphone this week that features a waterproof design along with some impressive specs.

The company describes the device as "the ideal smartphone for active explorers who are enjoying outdoor lifestyles and seeking a durable mobile device with essential smartphone capabilities." It is optimized to endure harsh rugged outdoor conditions and is dust and sand proof. The Xcover 2 is even water resistant to a depth of one meter for up to 30 minutes.

Xcover owners will also be able to take photos while under the water with the direct camera key, keep a tight grip on their device with the strap holder, and not have to worry about dropping their smartphone as the battery cover lock provides added protection.

The device also comes with pre-downloaded Google map data and an enhanced GPS + GLONASS which shortens the satellite signal detection by up to 20 percent to track the users location more accurately. It's also outfitted with an LED Flash next to the camera which can be used like a torch and a huge battery capacity of 570 hours which makes the Xcover 2 the best possible smartphone for exploring the outdoors.

Other features on the handset include the Cardio Trainer Pro workout application that helps users achieve their fitness goals by creating a tailored training program. It and allows them to check their progress and record their track and speed.

Specifications on the Xcover 2 include Android 4.1, JellyBean, a 4-inch WVGA display, a 5-megapixel camera, VGA front camera, Bluetooth 4.0, and a 1GHz dual-core processor.

The device is basically made for the outdoors type who wants to be able to bang their smartphone around and not worry about it falling in water.

The press release did not reveal any information regarding pricing or a release date for the device.
