Samsung Z3 Might Be Next Tizen Smartphone
An earlier report by Reuters said that the Korean phone manufacturer is looking to release several Tizen-powered smartphones within the year. A newly released report indicates that the first of these Tizen phones might be the Samsung Z3.
Tizen is Samsung's own mobile operating system which it developed completely independent of Android. Samsung is at the forefront of its development but it is also working with other industry partners such as Intel and Huawei. Only one phone has so far been released with Tizen, the Samsung Z1. Its limited release in India was received well and it is apparent that Samsung wants to try its hand again in using Tizen for smartphones. The OS is also being used in a couple of Samsung's wearables.
A new report from SamMobile "confirms" that there is a new Tizen phone coming and it is going to be the Samsung Z3. The SamMobile report cited sources that confirmed that the Z3 will be the next Tizen handset, with model number SM-Z300H_SWA_DD. It was also a conscious decision on the part of Samsung to go from Z1 to Z3, without using Z2. No reason was given for this decision.
Like the Z1, the Z3 is expected to be a budget-friendly device which means that its technical specifications will not go past what current mid-range phones are offering. The Samsung Z1 had "modest specs" with only a dual-core Spreadtrum processor, only 512MB of RAM and an 3.2 mega-pixel camera. But owing to the Tizen operating system, the phone was much speedier than other Samsung handsets that ran on Android.
The Z3 will likely carry an upgraded Tizen 3.0 which is said to have new features and will focus on the Internet of Things.
As to when the new phone will be unveiled, the SamMobile report predicts it may be done during an upcoming developer conference in India, which may also indicate a limited market release again. But Samsung has not confirmed these reports as of yet.
