Samsung's Project Valley May Usher in the Era of Flexible Devices

Reports have emerged that Samsung is quite close to manufacturing foldable devices after rumors surfaced it has a specific "Project Valley" sector for the purpose.

South Korean electronics giant Samsung may soon introduce the world's first ever foldable display phone with its people hard at work on "Project Valley," codenamed "V."

For quite some time now, Samsung has made no secret of its interest in flexible displays, with the Galaxy S6 Edge, Galaxy Round, and the Galaxy Note Edge acting as the forerunners of the technology.

According to GSM Arena, Samsung is taking it a step further with Project Valley to manufacture foldable display devices, with speculations they are working on several prototypes based on the technology.

While the project is said to be in its early stages, and there may be reason to assume Samsung may scrap "Project Valley" if it hits snags on the way, the valley metaphor indicates the singular goal the Korean tech giant is hoping to reach – that whatever device they are currently working hard on is meant to fold.

While not many details are available at this point, according to conjecture, Samsung is looking into creating flexible, and totally fluid screens, rather than just two screens intertwined.

There has also been considerable buzz generated by Samsung's not-so-silent plan to concentrate on bendable display technology that will result in neither a flip phone or a dual-screen variant.

Android Authority writes Sammobile employees have their fingers on information regarding the foldable display timeline, and that phone owners can allegedly use specialized gestures to activate the display.

For now, the latest handhelds that come close to the technology are Sony's Tablet P, which features two screens that fold into a larger single screen, the Japanese NEC Medias W, a dual-screen smartphone, and the Kyocera Echo, the forerunner of dual-screen technology.

If Samsung is able to perfect foldable AMOLED panels, there may be a huge potential for the South Korean tech company to usher in the age of the true foldable smartphone.
