San Diego only managed to steal a playoff berth after a renewed Phil Rivers dragged them over the line with some fantastic form over the final third of the season. He will be looking to utilize his team's running backs today, and how well they manage to do against the Bengals defensive line could be the difference between winning and losing.

Their rush offense has been extremely important to the Chargers when they have won this season. They have a 9-3 record when they have rushed for more than 100 yards, and when they've fallen below 100 yards their record falls to 0-4.

The Bengals though, are one of the NFL's most equipped teams to deal with that running threat. They allowed more than 100 rush yards against them in only six games this season, and their stingy run defense could prove a big challenge for San Diego today.

If statistics mean anything, then the Bengals must start well. In games where they've scored 14 or more points in the first half they went 8-1. In games where they failed to score 14 points in the first half they went just 2-4.

Despite all the statistical talk, there is one statistic that stands out above all others; the Bengals are undefeated at the Paul Brown Stadium this season. That's a huge advantage, and the Chargers will need to put on a magnificent performance today to snap that amazing home record by the Bengals.

Cincinnati have also allowed an average of just 289 yards at the Paul Brown Stadium this season. If they continue to be as stingy in defense as that then this could end in tears for the Chargers.
