San Francisco 49ers Roster and Injury News: Reggie Bush to Have Season-Ending Surgery

By the looks of it, the San Francisco 49ers don't have a choice but to settle for the running back duo of Shaun Draughn and Kendall Gaskins after news that the team's star RB, Reggie Bush, will be undergoing a season-ending surgery in order to repair a torn medial collateral ligament or MCL, which will be performed later in the week.

The team and Bush originally thought that the injury was a torn anterior cruciate ligament or ACL but it was later determined that it was in fact MCL. There's still no update on the status of Carlos Hyde's knee injury, which means that the 49ers will have to find ways to win without two key players.

According to ESPN, contrary to what was initially thought, Bush does not need repair or surgery on his ACL but instead will be subjecting himself to surgery for the torn left MCL.

Fears about the running back's injury started on Sunday during the first quarter of the 49ers game against the Rams, which they lost 27-6. As Bush was running out of bounds on a punt, he appeared to slip on the concrete, injuring his left knee in the process. Head coach Jim Tomsula later confirmed that the player will be undergoing an MRI, which led to the announcement of the surgery.

To offset the loss of Bush, as well as key players Hyde and Mike Davis, San Francisco immediately signed free agent running back Shaun Draughn and added Jarryd Hayne to the team's practice squad.

Bush started the game against the Rams at running back because of the absence of Carlos Hyde, but he only owns eight carries for 28 yards thus far, including four catches producing 19 yards. The depth chart also features rookie Davis and Kendall Gaskins, but the former won't be seeing any action anytime soon because of a surgery to repair a broken hand.
