San Francisco 49ers Roster, Injury News 2017: Safety Jaquiski Tartt Out for the Season With Broken Forearm
Safety Jaquiski Tartt's season is probably over after he sustained a forearm injury in Sunday's 20–10 loss to the Arizona Cardinals.
The third-year pro went down with the injury while he was tackling Cardinals tight end Tony Niklas in the second quarter, and after the game, San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan announced what many have already suspected — Tartt has a fractured forearm.
This is a huge blow for the Niners because they just lost safety Jimmie Ward to a similar injury the week before.
"I think it's going to be similar to what happened to Jimmie," Shanahan told reporters after the game, via the Mercury News. "I'd be surprised if he doesn't go on IR," he continued.
On Monday, the 49ers confirmed they are placing Tartt on the injured reserve list. Aside from Tartt, the 49ers also lost Kyle Juszczyk (neck), Trent Taylor (ribs), Elijah Lee (knee) and Cole Hikutini (knee) to injuries this past Sunday.
Tartt has played well in both safety positions this season. He started at strong safety when Fifth-year pro Eric Reid got hurt in their week two game against the Seattle Seahawks, and he moved to free safety after Ward injured his arm against the Philadelphia Eagles last week.
Tartt has recorded 55 tackles and an interception in nine games this season.
Rookie Adrian Colbert came in to replace Tartt during Sunday's game and he will likely get the start at free safety moving forward.
"Adrian's done a good job. One play, the quarterback tried to look him off, they threw a go-route and Adrian showed very good range to break it up. I've seen him play physical," Shanahan said, according to the Mercury News.
"... With Tartt's broken arm, sounds like he's going to have more opportunities, so hopefully he continues to get better," he added.
Reid should continue to start at strong safety for the 49ers.
