San Francisco 49ers roster news: Drop Jarryd Hayne, Move Kendall Gaskins to Active Roster

The San Francisco 49ers have decided to waive running back Jarryd Hayne.

Described by NFL.com's Kevin Patra as a "surprise move", the team made the announcement on Saturday, where they also announced the promotion of Kendall Gaskins from the practice squad to the active roster.

The 27-year old Hayne had been struggling over six games wherein he earned a mere eight carries for 25 yards. The report also notes that he "didn't appear fully comfortable in limited duty fielding punts".

In another report by Liam Quinn, Belinda Grant Geary for Daily Mail Australia, one of the replacement players Reggie Bush injured his knee during their game on Monday against the St. Louis Rams, after falling on a concrete slab off the field when he was forced out of bounds. Further reports say Bush's season has been cut shot as he has likely torn his ACL from the accident.

Gaskins, on the other hand, was not off to a good start with the team. The 24-year old running back committed a slip during his first play. He was also tackled behind the line of scrimmage for a two-yard loss. Gaskins carried the ball a total of five times for six yards.

Hayne, who played for the Parramatta Eels in the National Rugby League from 2006-2014, will be given his final career verdict on Monday night, whether will be staying with the San Francisco 49ers' practice squad or if he will be signing with another team.

The same Daily Mail report adds that two teams are interested in signing Haynes, namely the Detroit Lions and the Seattle Seahawks.

Wayne's immediate future is currently hanging in the balance, but for people in his close circle, a return to the rugby league is unlikely. This, according to Wayne Beavis, who was one of the people who were instrumental in Hayne's switch to American Football from Rugby.

"There's no chance of him coming back, none at all,' said Beavis. "He is 100 per cent committed to what he is doing over there."
