'Sand Castle' Latest News: Netflix Releases Trailer Starring Nicholas Hoult, Henry Cavill
Netflix has unveiled the first trailer for the upcoming film "Sand Castle," a fact-based war drama inspired by screenwriter Chris Roessner's experiences as a machine gunner in Iraq.
According to Coming Soon, the film is a candid depiction of the Second Gulf War told through the eyes of American soldiers standing on the war's front lines.
As can be the seen in the trailer, "Sand Castle" follows a group of American soldiers in the early days of the second Gulf War in Iraq in 2003.
One of the witnesses to the heat and horror in the country is the young Private Matt Ocre who is portrayed by "Equals" and "X-Men: First Class" star Nicholas Hoult, one of several soldiers assigned to the outskirts of Baqubah to fix a water pumping station damaged by U.S. bombs.
However, their efforts are met with skepticism, resentment and anger despite trying to win the hearts and minds of the locals who are not sold on their operation. In the streets, squares and schools, Ocre discovers the true cost of war.
Aside from Hoult, the film also stars, "Man of Steel" star Henry Cavill, Glen Powell, Logan Marshall-Green, Beau Knapp, Neil Brown Jr., Parker Sawyers, Sam Spruell, Sammy Sheik and Tommy Flanagan.
"Sand Castle" is the second feature film from acclaimed Brazilian director Fernando Coimbra, who directed the movie "A Wolf at the Door" as well as episodes from the first season of Netflix's hit series "Narcos." The film is produced by Mark Gordon, Justin Nappi of Treehouse Pictures and Ben Pugh of 42.
This upcoming war drama is one of several projects Netflix has officially announced over the past several days. Other Netflix projects lined up for this year include Brad Pitt's "War Machine," Alison Brie's "Glow," and Amy Schumer's stand-up special.
"Sand Castle" will arrive exclusively on all territories where Netflix is available on April 21, 2017.
