Sandra Bullock on Movie 'Gravity,' Her Black Son and Leaving Hollywood

Sandra Bullock's movie, the upcoming "Gravity" with George Clooney, was far from the only subject she discussed in her extensive interview for Vogue magazine. The Hollywood actress also opened up about her latest film, her divorce from Jesse James, her decision to live in Texas, and her family— she adopted her son Louis in 2010.

Sandra Bullock's movie "Gravity" was the reason she decided to do the Vogue cover, on which she appeared in a shimmering scaled turquoise Mac Jacobs dress, the backless part turned to the readers. In the sci-fi thriller directed by Alfonso Cuaron, she plays Dr. Ryan Stone, a NASA medical engineer who becomes stranded in space. Bullock called "Gravity" a "once-in-a-lifetime" chance.

"You check it off and go, 'If it ends here, I've ended up on top," the 49-year-old actress said. "There's nothing else to do."

Bullock has no qualms about leaving Hollywood either. For the good of her African-American son, Louis Bardo Bullock, whom she adopted after he was born in New Orleans in 2010, Bullock revealed that she would quit showbusiness in an instant.

"I think this business can take the child out of kids so quickly," she said. "I don't want him to have pressures brought on by what I do. I will quit. I will leave. If I see whatever I'm doing affecting him negatively, I will pack up and move to Alaska."

Bullock has already removed herself from much of the media speculation that other celebrities face. She avoids Twitter— "I don't want anyone to know where I am," she says, possibly wary of former convicted stalkers— and also doesn't reside only in California, like many movie stars. She also lives in Austin, Texas.

"I just felt like myself," Bullock, who has owned a restaurant, bakery and floral shop in the city for years, told Vogue. "It was just my safe place. I would get off the plane, smell the soil, hear the cicadas."

Still, some of the drama of Hollywood followed her even there. In 2010, her then-husband Jesse James was slammed by multiple cheating claims by various women. Amid the scandal and James' eventual public admission, Bullock filed for divorce. Nevertheless, she has vowed to never "go backward."

"We're all where we're supposed to be," Bullock explained. "I am exactly where I want to be now. You can't go backward. I'm not going backward. I'm grateful that I'm here, blessed to have what I have. Nobody can be prepared for anything."

"If you end up in a place where you can look back and go, 'It happened, but I'm so lucky to be sitting where I'm sitting …" she added.
