Sarah Palin $460,000 Funding from PAC: Numbers Drop by More than Half
Sarah Palin's leadership PAC has significantly decreased its ability to raise funds based on a report from the first half of the year that shows a more than a half-drop.
Palin's PAC fundraised an estimated $460,000 in the first half of 2013 according to new reports. Those figures compared to nearly $500,000 is spending towards travel, speechwriting and consulting costs. The fundraising figures for the first part of the year are low in comparison to previous years.
In 2012 the SarahPAC brought in an estimated $1.2 million during the first part of the year. In 2011 that number was even higher, at $1.7 million.
The reduced funding did not alarm SarahPAC treasurer Tim Crawford, who accounted for the drop by stating that less focus had been placed on producing numbers.
"Very pleased with the results," he said in an email to the Associated Press on Wednesday. "It is an off year after a presidential election where every donor was bombarded with requests."
The former Alaska governor said recently that she has "considered" running for Senate in the next year. The PAC made only one campaign contribution during the first part of the year- a $5,000 donation to Republican Jason Smith, who won a special election in Missouri this year. Donations typically occurred more frequently during this time of year. But funds are still available for those Palin wishes to support Crawford assured.
"The PAC has the resources ready to contribute to whomever the governor decides to support and endorse during the 2014 election cycle," he told USA Today.
Breaking down expenses cover Sarah PAC's money, a bulk of funding went to operating expenses, including more than $217,000 paid to consultants and more than $124,000 on postage and mailings. More than $48,000 covered airfare and other travel expenses. An additional $37,000 went to speech writing according to USA.
