Sarah Tressler, Houston Chronicle Relationship Strained Over Stripper Reports
An emerging controversy is overtaking a conservative Houston newspaper concerning a side job being performed by one of its reporters.
At the center of the firestorm is Sarah Tressler, 29, who is a reporter for the Houston Chronicle's society section. She has been working at the paper since last April all the while moonlighting as a stripper.
News of her double life has brought unwanted attention on her as well as the publication. A rival newspaper was the first to report on the story.
Richard Connelly, who reports for the Houston Press, outed Tressler and her colleagues at the Chronicle after an expose was published that highlighted the young writers' after hours work.
According to Connelly, Tressler kept a Facebook, Twitter profile and blog under the guise of "Angry Stripper."
A description on her Facebook fan page gives readers a sharp perspective into her after hours life.
"I strip for crazy people and then write about it so we can laugh at them TOGETHER. That's love, people," Tessler wrote.
Her interests include, "Brass poles, tiny muscles, money, and the perfectly polite conversation of your choosing."
Tressler's LinkedIn profile reveals that she has a bachelor's degree from the University of Houston and a master's degree in journalism from New York University.
It continues to state that she is also an adjunct professor at the University of Houston and has freelanced for publications such as Us Weekly, L.A. City Beat and GLOSS Magazine.
But according to a source who spoke with the Houston Press, Tressler's colleagues are not happy and think she is using this exposure to further her own career.
"Her fellow Chronicle employees have found out and they're furious," the source said. "Furious because she barely bothers to conceal her identity and they're worried about the reaction from the 'ladies who lunch' when they inevitably find out that they've been hosting an active stripper at their benefits."
Connelly also explained that Tressler has been using her blog in an attempt to secure a book deal which would document her alternative lifestyle.
The Houston Chronicle has yet to issue a statement.
