'Saved by the Bell' Lifetime Movie to Go 'Behind the Scenes' of Hit Show
Lifetime is preparing to spill the beans about what happened behind-the-scenes of one of the iconic TV shows of the '90s, "Saved by the Bell." The movie will be based upon interviews and star actors chosen by original "Saved by the Bell" casting director, Robin Lippin.
Dylan Everett from "Degrassi: The Next Generation" will take on the daunting task of slipping into Mark Paul Gosselaar's shoes. Alyssa Lynch, a newcomer, is Tiffani-Amber Thiessen, all-American cheerleader. Rounding out the cast is "Shameless" actor Sam Kindseth will portray Dustin Diamond. Julian Works, "Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones" will play Mario Lopez. Tiera Skovbye from "Supernatural" will play Elizabeth Berkley and Taylor Russell McKenzie from "Blink" will portray Lark Voorhies.
"The Unauthorized Saved by the Bell Story" will examine the lives of the stars and what went on during filming and behind-the-scenes. It's obviously an unauthorized documentary, meaning that it will be left wide-open to interpretation and has not been endorsed by any of the former stars.
Dustin Diamond wrote his autobiography Behind the Bell, which revealed that there was plenty of sexual tension and action among the cast members. Drug use was rampant, as was drinking, which was ironic given that the cast did a special "No Hope With Dope" episode designed to address drug abuse and another that featured Elizabeth Berkley's character addicted to caffeine pills.
Diamond labeled himself an outcast from the popular actors and actresses; his character was a huge dork and that label carried over into real life for Diamond. He has spoken out against his former co-stars and his time on the series, trying to shock everyone who enjoyed it while it was on the air.
"Saved by the Bell" was so popular that it spawned a follow-up series, "Saved by the Bell: The College Years" and "Saved by the Bell: The New Class." The last time the original cast was together was in 2009 for a People magazine featured reunion.
"The Unauthorized Saved by the Bell Story" airs on Sept. 1 on Lifetime.
