'Scandal' Gets Season 7 Renewal; Explosive Season 6 May Have Played a Hand in ABC's Decision
Certain series go as long as they could, provided they incite enough interest from the viewing public to keep it going. And that is exactly what is going on with the political thriller "Scandal" as it gets a season 7 nod as early as now despite season 6 just heating up.
According to International Business Times, ABC has confirmed that the show, along with other Thank God It's Thursday (TGIT) shows "Grey's Anatomy" and "How to Get Away with Murder," will be renewed for another season. Channing Dungey, ABC Entertainment president, has shared how happy he was to bring the shows back for another spin.
"'Grey's Anatomy', 'Scandal' and 'How to Get Away with Murder' continue to keep viewers on the edge of their seats and wanting more. I'm thrilled to bring back these shows and the OMG moments that come with them," Dungey explained.

It didn't come as a surprise that "Scandal" was to get another run, considering how it has been faring in audience shares. According to The Nielsen Company, the show has continued to rake in viewers every single time, amassing around 6.06 million viewers during its Feb. 16 episode.
"Grey's Anatomy" and "How to Get Away with Murder" hold their own against competing shows in their time slots, gaining 7.68 and 4.66 million viewers, respectively. Such numbers continue to establish ABC as a behemoth in Thursday night shows, only second to CBS.
The show's premiere episode also helped cement its way toward renewal, as it bombarded fans with explosive scenes and twists. Entertainment Tonight was able to compile seven of the most shocking events that hooked the fans, but perhaps Olivia Pope's (Kerry Washington) tenacity and knowing immediately who was behind the president-elect's shooting was expected yet sublime at the same time.
This being said, fans will be glad to know that "Scandal" is here to stay for another season, and probably for more for as long as a loyal mob backs it up.
