'Scandal' Season 3 Spoilers: Maya's 'Anger Can Be a Motivator'

Last week's episode of ABC's hit drama "Scandal" brought back a character that audiences were lead to believe had died. Maya, played by Khandi Alexander, was revealed to be alive. She had been imprisoned by her husband, Rowan. What does this mean for future episodes of "Scandal?" Will Maya and Olivia reunite? To find out what Khandi Alexander has to say about her character and the future of the show, read on, but be cautious of spoilers.

In a recent interview with TV Guide Alexander discussed what's in store for Maya. She described her character as strong enough to deal with all she has been through.

"She's incredibly strong. She's been in prison for over 20 years. Her husband put here there and she hasn't fallen apart. If anything, she's getting stronger in all that solitude. I was more into the actual role than the circumstances around it, but we'll get more pieces to the Remington puzzle as the plot thickens," Alexander said to TV Guide.

Alexander also discussed Maya and Olivia's relationship.

"Rowan is not a joke. He's a dangerous man. We'll learn more about Maya's past and her relationship with Olivia," the actress said.

She went on to hint at how she herself as an actress handled the role of Maya.

"I, as an actress, was trying to come to terms with all of that and play it in a realistic way as well as be entertaining and exciting. I had to figure out if that was possible. I really looked at people who had been in prison for long periods of time and some people are really able to transcend and find parts of themselves that enable them to remain sane. Sometimes anger can be a motivator to hold on to your sanity and that might be the case with her," Alexander said.

Catch "Scandal" on Thursdays on ABC at 10/9c.
