'Scandal' Season 5 Spoilers: Mellie and Cyrus Take Action; Cornelius Smith Jr. Talks More On Marcus' Role
Viewers of ABC's hit political drama TV series "Scandal" Season 5 are about to get even more engrossed with the ever-complicating plot concerning the issue between Mellie and her husband, Fitz.
Fans may remember the big ruckus Olivia caused when she confirmed the rumors of an affair between her and the POTUS. The rift between her and the First Lady would have been mended had she opted to hold her tongue and keep quiet as Mellie and Fitz were about to tell the public that everything is going strong with the First couple. Now, it's all swirling into chaos and the person in the disadvantaged side is the crisis manager.
For Mellie, this is an opportunity to further amp up her own political ambition.
The new teaser clip released by the network for the episode titled "Dog-Whistle Politics" revealed Mellie talking to Cyrus who, in the previous episode, seemed to be giddy with the worsening of things in the White House. The latter urges the Lady to exploit Fitz's current vulnerability and have her ask for new demands that would make her look good in the public in the midst of the scandal. Questions now arise as to whether this demand could involve Fitz giving up the highest office of the country to his wife.
On the casting side of the news, the new episode is also slated to reintroduce Cornelius Smith Jr.'s character Marcus. The latter appeared back in Season 4 asking for Liv and her Gladiator's help.
This time around, Smith Jr. will be on the show as a series regular. Speaking of his recasting, he told Entertainment Weekly (via Design & Trend) that the reason behind Marcus' reappearance could be no more than to continue the fight for what is right.
"Marcus is someone who will continue to fight for justice - whether it's going to be for the Gladiators or against the Gladiators, we don't know," he said (via D&T).
In fact, he teased that Marcus and Olivia will both start off on the wrong foot with each other as the two have different views and ideals. However, Smith Jr. said that there will be times when both parties will come into an agreement.
"In that relationship you have everything that relationships have: Time where they get along, times where they don't see eye-to-eye, there might be some friction," he went on to say (via D&T).
