'Scandal' season 5 spoilers, plot rumors: Olivia and Fitz are finally together
The last season of "Scandal" ended with a cliff-hanger and a very happy note that left fans wanting more. Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington) got her man as she and President Fitzgerald Grant (Tony Goldwyn) shared a passionate kiss. Meanwhile, Huck (Guillermo Diaz) is begging Quinn (Katie Lowes) to kill him after she found out he killed the grand jurors for Command and ending the investigation into B613, but it seems that she spared him after all.
The forthcoming season will pretty much pick up where things left off. Actress Bellamy Young who plays Mellie Grant on the show spoke about what next for her character. "Poor Mellie, man…,It should be the best time in the world — she got her senate seat! — but it's like the worst, because Fitz kicked her out. And he was so cold when he did it. She knows in her heart that Fitz has Olivia on speed dial as the door is shutting behind her. That season finale pulled the rug out from under everyone, so I think everybody was pretty happy that we were starting back immediately after and getting to go into those moments. It was a relief," she said. Furthermore, she added that Mellie will be less self-indulgent and that her character is in a world of hurt when the show starts.
Actress Mia Maestro will have an important recurring role on the hit series. Rumor has it that she will play one of Olivia's new Gladiators. Actress Portia de Rossi, who plays Elizabeth North, has just been promoted to series regular alongside actor Cornelius Smith Junior, who plays Marcus Walker, an activist.
The new season will focus more on the Gladiators, while exploring the very complex relationship of Quinn and Huck. Actress Katie Lowes spoke about what is next for her character. "She's in a really huge pickle. It's really a conflicting emotion of do you kill your best friend/mentor/sexual lover/all the different various relationships we've been to each other [and] the man you lick every once in a while for kicks? The truth is he killed a bus load of innocent American people and chopped a lot of their heads off for fun so Huck's crossed a major line. Now Quinn has crossed lines but not that bad," she said. "What I find so exciting about Quinn and where she's going and where you saw her last year is she's really holding down OPA. Everyone is dealing with their drama and she's the one making sure the doors stay open. She's hacking, she's threatening people with guns and her bare hands and she's trying to get Charlie to stop wanting to have sex. I think that's how she feels about it. I think that she's a workaholic, I think she's an Olivia Pope chick and I don't think she leave her brain much room to ponder her past. I think she's really present and really future faced," she added.
Scandal premieres on Sept. 24.
