Young spoke to TV Line about how the finale portrayed Olivia and Mellie's friendship. She said, "I think the knowledge of what happened with Andrew is just a ticking time bomb, and it's safe to say that it's just waiting to explode between them."
She also warned fans that the upcoming episodes of the series will surely bring an interesting storyline for her character. She explained, "Right now, Mellie believes the greatest cannon in her arsenal is Liv. I think she feels like, with Liv by her side, they're like Wonder Woman's gold cuffs. There's nothing they can't deflect, and there's no strategy they can't employ. But what happen[ed] on Thursday night … just changes everything."
Aside from the drama, there are also a lot of questions concerning Kerry Washington's involvement in the upcoming season. It was reported that Washington is expecting her second child, which will bring some challenges to the production of "Scandal" season 6 since she is the show's main character.
