School Officials Lie About Porn Star Sasha Grey Reading to First Graders
Sasha Grey, model, DJ, and former pornographic music star, was photographed in a first grade classroom reading to children - and school officials tried their best to deny it.
The Compton Unified School District participated in a national initiative to encourage children to read, called the “Read Across America” program. Grey showed up to Emerson Elementary, and read aloud to groups of first- and third-graders on Nov. 2.
Not soon after, parents of the school district raised a ruckus, admonishing school administrators about the incident.
For some puzzling reason, school officials decided to blatantly lie about the ex-porn star’s appearance, despite the day being highly documented by Twitter, and by pictures posted online.
A school district representative said, "We have several celebrities who read to our students each year. The actress you have indicated [Sasha] was not present," according to TMZ.
Grey has been retired from the adult film industry for nearly two years. Because of her prominence as a porn star, she has been able to move on to various other roles, like being featured on the TV show “Entourage,” and movies like “The Girlfriend Experience,” and “I Melt With You.”
Although she is no longer involved in pornography, parents did not care: they angrily complained to the school, citing Grey as a bad influence for young children.
Grey countered with a statement of her own, refusing to stop participating in the education program; she feels she should not be judged based on her past.
“I am an actor. I am an artist. I am a daughter. I am a sister. I am a partner. I have a past that some people may not agree with, but it does not define who I am,” her statement read.
The Compton Unified School District is one of the worst-rated in the country, with less than half the students graduating high school. On one internet forum, parents lash out at the notoriously bad schools, calling the children’s behavior “deplorable,” the curriculum “watered down,” and program in general in need of “a lot of reconstruction.”
Grey highlighted the need for the children to be better educated, stating, “To challenge non-profit education programs is an exercise in futility, counter-productive and anti-educational.”
She is also adamant about continuing to participate in “Read Across America.”
“I believe in the future of our children, and I will remain an active supporter and participant in education-focused initiatives,” said Grey.
