Scotland will play host to Wales at Hampden Park in Glasgow Friday for their World Cup qualifying tie, but the match will be more about national pride than qualification, since neither team is expected to make it to Brazil in 2014.
Newly appointed Scottish manager Gordon Strachan will have to work several miracles if Scotland is to advance to the next round of qualifying. Scotland is currently in last place in their World Cup qualification group after managing to earn only two points in their first four qualifying games.
Strachan took over from former Scottish manager Craig Levein, who led the team to two consecutive draws against Serbia and Macedonia last September and will be looking restore pride to the Scottish team. That won't be easy after the former Celtic boss witnessed Scotland continue to struggle defensively, conceding in nine of their last 11 matches.
Welsh manager Chris Coleman will have to prepare for the absence of Gareth Bale after the Tottenham Hotspurs' winger suffered an ankle injury during league play; it is doubtful he will play Friday.
Coleman has seen his side lose three of their first four qualifying matches, including a 6-1 thrashing at the hands of Serbia. Wales was not able to score in their first four matches under Coleman, but the team has scored in three of their last four matches.
Wales will be confident heading into the match, given that they were able to beat Scotland the last time the two teams played in October after Bale netted a pair of goals to seal the victory.
Wales will also be drawing on the recent history between the two clubs, given that the Welsh team has lost just once in their last seven matches against the Scots.
Kick-off for the match is at 4:00 p.m. ET and can be watched online here.
