'Scream Queens' Season 2 News: Fox Confirms Renewal; New Setting Is A Hospital
"Scream Queens," the horror/black comedy series created by Ryan Murphy, Ian Brennan and Brad Falchuk, has officially been given the green light for a second season. Fox made the announcement during the Television Critics Association's winter press tour on Friday, EW reports.
According to the network, the show will move the setting from the fictional Wallace University to a hospital. Fending off comparisons to "American Horror Story: Asylum," Fox CEO and co-chairman Gary Newman told reporters, "I don't think it's anything like 'Asylum,' which was set in a period."
Newman explained that a medical setting provides an "incredibly rich area" from which to tell stories and said that Murphy "has always loved the medical area." Murphy created the popular award-winning drama series "Nip/Tuck," which aired from 2003 to 2010.

Another Fox executive also revealed that Murphy will be bringing back some of the actors from the first season of "Scream Queens" for the next installment. "I believe they will be the same characters," Dana Walden, Fox co-chairman and CEO, revealed, adding that as the network is only at the preliminary stages of mapping out Season 2, they couldn't say who is coming back and who isn't.
"It really hasn't been decided who's coming back and how many of them who will be playing their old characters or not," Newman adds. "Our instinct is that at least a few of those characters will be back with the same actors playing the same roles but it will be anthological in that there will be a time jump and it'll be in a different setting."
According to Deadline, Jamie Lee Curtis is expected to return in Season 2 to anchor the series with her role as Cathy Munsch. Emma Roberts (Chanel Oberlin), Lea Michele (Hester Ulrich), Abigail Breslin (Libby Putney), Billie Lourd (Sadie Swenson), and Keke Palmer (Zayday Williams) are also reportedly returning for the second season of the horror series. According to the website, most of the main cast of "Scream Queens" are locked into multi-year deals with the show.
There has been no official announcement regarding the release date for the second season of "Scream Queens."
