Sean Astin Believes That 'the Goonies' Movie Will Get a Sequel

Kids from the 1980's will surely be delighted to know the latest news regarding the classic adventure film "The Goonies" as it has been rumored to have a sequel sometime in the future. At this point, there's still no confirmation if the said movie will really get a follow-up but actor Sean Astin is positive that it will happen soon.

According to Movie Web, Astin, who played the role of asthmatic Michael "Mikey" Walsh in the 1985 classic "The Goonies," strongly believes that a part two of the movie will happen no matter what. He first revealed his thoughts when rumors of the sequel started surfacing for the last two years. Via his Twitter account, Astin wrote a misleading post that said, "#Goonies2 I shall return." He quickly took down the post though after news broke that he might not be considered for the film if ever a sequel were to happen, as reported by Screen Rant.

But he once again turned to social media to share more of this thoughts regarding the sequel. This time, he posted on his official Facebook page wherein he said:

"I have always believed that there will be a Goonies Sequel, because Steven Spielberg told me in 1988 that he wanted to make one."

He then went on to say that Richard Donner, director of the film, has stated that it is in the works. And whether he will be part of the movie or not, that's something he doesn't know but he says he will still root for it no matter what. He then concluded his thoughts by saying that he knows in his heart that Mikey and the gang will be back for a sequel.

The "Lord of the Rings" actor also told Tulsa World that the question to ask should not be if the movie will happen, but rather when the sequel gets made. Hopefully, Astin's confidence is enough to encourage fans to never stop believing.
