Season 2 of 'Fargo' is about a massacre, set in the 70s, with a stellar cast
Season 2 of "Fargo" returns as a prequel to its first season. It takes inspiration from a 'true crime' that took place in 1979 in and around Sioux Falls, South Dakota and Luverne, Minnesota.
In Season 1 of "Fargo", Lou Solverson has a scene with the killer Lorne Malvo to whom he mentions a massacre in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. In this upcoming season, a young Lou Solverson will be solving this very case.
In Season 1, the character of Lou Solverson was an aged man played by Keith Carradine. This time around, Patrick Wilson, who plays the younger Lou Solverson, has returned from Vietnam and is more earnest and is struggling to come to terms with the changes he sees around him.
The critically acclaimed FX series will have the Reagan era as a backdrop for a series of ghastly murders that terrify a small rural community. Along with Ted Danson, there is Kirsten Dunst as a small town beautician. The cast is spectacular and fans will recall a similar outstanding cast in the first season of the show which included Martin Freeman and Billy Bob Thornton.
FX has its official synopsis of "Fargo" Season 2 out and it states – "Lou Solverson (Patrick Wilson), a young State Trooper recently back from Vietnam, investigates a case involving a local crime gang, a major Mob syndicate and a small town beautician Peggy Blumquist (Kirsten Dunst) and her husband Ed (Jesse Plemons), the local butcher's assistant. Helping Lou piece things together is his father-in-law, Sheriff Hank Larsson (Ted Danson). Other cast members include Nick Offerman, Bokeem Woodbine, Jean Smart, Jeffrey Donovan, Angus Sampson and Kieran Culkin."
At the recent Emmys, "Fargo" writer Noah Hawley hinted that there are "strong women" involved in Season 2. Hawley said, "It's about strong women, there's a lot of strong women. Obviously we're following Lou Solverson, a very strong male character." There might also be domestic strife in the Solverson household.
The promo of Season 2 of "Fargo" has a light and easy tone. But viewers will be surprised at the darkness that will soon emerge as the season plays out.
"Fargo" Season 2 premieres on Monday, October 12 on FX.
