Season 3 of 'Sleepy Hollow' Puts Ichabod Behind Bars; Three New Cast Members, Two Crossovers Will Spice Things Up
When Season 3 "Sleepy Hollow" returns to television screens today, October 1, a lot of surprising things are in store for fans. Fox has been revving up publicity for the show and has been placing spoilers on Twitter. One such spoiler was a big shocker – a picture of Ichabod Crane, played by Tom Mison, in an orange outfit hinting that he will be behind closed bars of a jail soon. New cast members and two Bones/Sleepy Hollow crossovers will follow.
In the Twitter photo, Ichabod is wearing an orange outfit and beside him is a member of the U.S. Border Patrol. The caption of the photo says: "Big Season 3 Scoop! Ichabod's in quite the predicament in the premiere. #OrangeIsTheNewSkinnyJeans #SleepyHollow"
"Sleepy Hollow" will continue to focus on the relationship between Abbie and Ichabod. But that will not be all. The upcoming season will also feature three new regulars as reported by Entertainment Weekly. The trio consists of Lance Gross, star of "House of Payne" who will come in as Abbie's FBI boss; "Twilight" star Nikki Reed who will play the character of Betsy Ross; and lastly, Zach Appelman who reprises his role as Joe Corbin.
The show's new executive producer Clifton Campbell, in the same interview with EW, said that there were "several creative changes made in the upcoming season and characters were moved forward." He added, "We don't want anything to ever be too settled in Sleepy Hollow. That would be the antithesis of our show. We're not going to be as mythology-laden as the show has been in the past. The fun is definitely back."
It was revealed by Fox that there is a time jump of nine months between Seasons 2 and 3 and Abbie Mills, played by Nicole Beharie, has completed her FBI training in Quantico and is now working under her boss. So it is curious to see Ichabod on the other side – that is as a criminal. Is it the duo's plan to catch a criminal or has Ichabod messed up?
There will be another thing for fans to love as Campbell shares the news with EW that there will be two "Bones" crossover episodes, one for each show. In these episodes, Abbie and Ichabod will be working with Booth and Brennan.
Campbell further elaborated, "Obviously, we're totally different shows, but we looked at that as a real opportunity, both from their side and from our side. Both shows work best when they don't take themselves too seriously."
