Season 3 Of 'The Last Ship' To Focus On Rebuilding The World.
The finale of The Last Ship" Season 2 has many open storylines that will evolve into proper episodes in Season 3. The show ended as the summer's top scripted series on basic cable. Riding the success of the series, TNT is letting "The Last Ship" sail for a third season and it will be back for a 13-episode season in Summer 2016.
According to a report on the Cartermatt website, "The Last Ship" Season 3 will start off with the shootout. The shootout will be central to many storylines that will move ahead in Season 3 of the show. When Curtis shot Rachel during the celebrations, everyone naively thought that now that they have the cure, they just have to go out into the world and give the cure to the people. But it's not as simple as it sounds.
Showrunners Steve Kane and Hank Steinberg spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about what to expect in the third season.
There were family reunions in the Season 2 finale. Both Russ and Tex were reunited with their families. Asked if there would be more families reuniting, Steinberg replied, "That's the fun of this new season for us... Some people are going to find out their families were wiped out. Some might find their relatives. Some might find a spouse. Part of the fun when you come back in season three is seeing who's where."
"The Last Ship" is based on William Brinkley's novel, 'The Last Ship.' The post-apocalypse drama takes place on the Navy destroyer, the USS Nathan James, and follows the exploits of Capt. Chandler, played by Eric Dane, as he sets out to struggle and survive in a world that has very few survivors left.
The main theme of Season 3 seems to be rebuilding and moving ahead. Kane said, "That's the idea, that season three will be about moving forward, now attending to the task of rebuilding America and putting the world back in order. That will require a makeshift team and a makeshift government with Michener at the head."
Season 3 of "The Last Ship" will embark on a rebuilding of infrastructure like rebuilding roads, generating electricity, power as people are going to need all this than just the cure.
