Seattle Seahawks Look to Thomas Rawls and Eddie Lacy to Carry the Load With Chris Carson Out
With starting running back Chris Carson out for the rest of the season due to a fracture in his lower left leg, and his primary backup, C.J. Prosise, still dealing with an ankle injury, the Seattle Seahawks will have to rely on Eddie Lacy and Thomas Rawls in the coming weeks.
The two players were supposed to compete for snaps as the team's starting running back, but Rawls injured his ankle during the preseason, and Carson thoroughly outplayed Lacy to earn the nod to start.
Now Lacy and Rawls are finally back in the rotation and they will get a larger share of the workload moving forward.
Lacy ran for 52 yards on 11 carries in the Seahawks' 46–18 victory over the Indianapolis Colts last Sunday while Rawls was inactive in that game. However, Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll has noted that he's going to see more action in the coming weeks.
"I'm really excited for him. He's in good shape, he has worked out hard. There was no reason why he couldn't play, we just played Chris a lot, and you saw us flip it around with Eddie a couple of weeks ago. But now he and Eddie are going to take the load. We're so fortunate to have Thomas coming into the lineup. He's all fired up about it. He's healthy and he's real anxious, I can't wait to get him out there," Carroll said of Rawls, via the Seahawks' official website.
Lacy and Rawls will have to compete for snaps with Prosise once the latter gets back, so they still won't get the amount of touches that they expected before the season started.
J.D. McKissic should see some action as well thanks to his performance against the Colts. The second-year running back ran for 38 yards on four carries last Sunday and he finished the game with a rushing touchdown and a receiving touchdown.
