Seattle Seahawks News: Earl Thomas Expected to Play in Week 1

After falling a win short of taking in their second NFL Super Bowl in history, the Seattle Seahawks are making their final preparations for the new campaign and are still considered one of the best teams in the league.

And things are looking up with their line-up as it is reported that safety Earl Thomas is close to being match fit and is expected to return to the line-up in Week 1.

A big part of the team's defense, Thomas had an excellent season last year, picking up 97 tackles while forcing three fumbles and completing one interception with the Seahawks.

Thomas suffered his injury back in the NFC Championship Game against the Green Bay Packers when he went to tackle Randall Cobb. Heading to the locker room to get treatment, Thomas still returned to the game but wore a harness to protect his left shoulder.

He would still be featured in Super Bowl XLIX against the New England Patriots where the Seahawks lost after the famous play where Seattle quarterback Russell Wilson passed a ball which was then intercepted by Malcolm Butler.

It was expected that Thomas would take around six to eight months to recover from his injury – ruling him out of training camp and the first part of the NFL season. However, news has circulated that he has passed his physical examination and is now off the PUP list.

Despite Thomas missing out on training camp, he is a veteran who is always ready to play so fitness and rust should not be an issue for the safety. During this time, the Seahawks will welcome a race for Thomas' position as DeShawn Shead, Steven Terrell and Ronald Martin compete in his absence.
