Seattle Seahawks News: Team ready to move on past Chancellor.
The Seahawks and Chancellor are locked in a contract battle.
Even before the new National Football League season begins, there is already a big issue regarding strong safety Kam Chancellor as he is holding out on a better deal with the Seattle Seahawks.
Entering his sixth season in the NFL, Chancellor believes that he should be able to renegotiate a new contract after seeing teammates Richard Sherman and Earl Thomas get rebuffed deals.
However, Chancellor has only completed a year of his current four-year contract and the Seahawks believes that he is no position to negotiate for something bigger.
As a result, the Seahawks appear to be prepared to move on without Chancellor's services on the field.
According to reports, a Seahawk player revealed that they may not see Chancellor suit up all season long.
Talking to ESPN, the player revealed: "I don't think we're going to have him at all this season. They will just collect his salary until he folds."
At this rate, and if Chancellor misses a game in the regular season, he would take a big hit on his contract as he is set to miss out on at least $267,000 every game he doesn't play for Seattle.
Showing that they are ready to move on, coach Pete Carroll revealed that Dion Bailey may start in Chancellor's place if the latter decides not to play in their season opener. Furthermore, they have revealed that teams have inquired on the situation – showing that no player is bigger than the team moving forward.
Carroll told reporters: "There have been a couple phone calls from other teams, people just kind of wondering what's going on. We really are not interested in talking to them about that, so we don't."
The Seahawks are scheduled to meet the St. Louis Rams in their opener on September 13. Expectations are high for the club after falling short of winning in last year's Super Bowl against the New England Patriots.
