Seattle Seahawks: Trade Is Richard Sherman's Idea
The trade rumors surrounding Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman just got a lot more interesting.
A lot of people thought the Seahawks were trying to send Sherman a message by putting him on the trading block. But ESPN's Adam Schefter has reported that the idea actually came from the All-Pro cornerback himself.
"It has been my understanding all along that Richard Sherman was the one who initiated this. He was the one that wanted to be traded initially. The Seahawks were obliging him and his request," Schefter said on the Friday edition of "SportsCenter."
Well, that's an interesting turn of events. If this is true, then it means that Sherman is the one who's trying to leave Seattle. And it looks like the Seahawks are more than willing to accommodate his request.
ESPN's Jeremy Fowler has reported that the Seahawks aren't just taking calls from interested teams. They are also initiating the trade talks as well. Citing a source, the Miami Herald's Armando Salguero said that the Seahawks are asking for "a very good player plus a high draft pick" for the cornerback. As expected, a player of his caliber won't come cheap.
Interestingly, Sherman told 710 ESPN Seattle's Gee Scott that he doesn't want to leave Seattle last week. So, was he lying? His brother, Branton, also told NFL.com's Ian Rapoport that Sherman doesn't want to leave the Seahawks.
Meanwhile, Sherman told MMQB.com's Peter King that a trade is highly unlikely and there are no hard feelings between him and the team.
"Very little chance it happens, but both sides are listening. I honestly don't have much more to say about it than what I've already said. We have a great relationship. ... There is a lot of love and respect. There is no bad blood," Sherman said in a text message to King.
Sherman wants to play for a contender, so let's see what happens next.
