Selena Quintanilla to Receive Posthumous Star on Hollywood Walk of Fame
The late Selena Quintanilla, dubbed the "Queen of Tejano music," will be awarded a posthumous star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
"Selena deserves the star," Edward James Olmos said in an interview with Variety. "Her music stands the test of time. She was a brilliant artist. I just wish she were here. It's not fair."
The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce ceremony will honor the Mexican-American singer on Friday, Nov. 3. Her career might not have been as long as other global icons, but her music still stands the test of time.

Leron Gubler, Hollywood Chamber of Commerce President, will host the nighttime dedication ceremony at 6:30 p.m. PDT in front of Capitol Records at 1750 N. Vine St. in Hollywood.
The artist's sister, Suzette, actress Eva Longoria, and Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti are expected to attend the event.
Selena rose to stardom when she fronted the family band "Selena y Los Dinos" in 1980, along with siblings A.B. and Suzette Quintanilla. During the Tejano Music Awards in 1986, she was dubbed the Female Vocalist of the year.
She received a Grammy award for Best Mexican/American Album Live in 1994. It was her first Grammy.
Selena passed away in 1995 when she was shot to death by her friend and former boutique manager and fan club president Yolanda Saldivar. She was only 23.
Saldivar had been embezzling money from Selena's boutiques. After being confronted, she denied such claims. Despite her father's warnings, Selena reached out to Saldivar and asked her to produce the missing financial papers for tax purposes.
When the singer learned that Saldivar had given her the wrong documents and had lied about being raped, she decided to end their four-year working relationship. Upset, Saldivar pulled out a revolver and fatally wounded the singer.
Jennifer Lopez portrayed the singer's life and career in the 1997 film "Selena."
