'Severed' on PS Vita: New Trailer, Gameplay, Release Date, and Possible Vita Cartridge Release
DrinkBox Studios, creator of "Guacamelee!" and "Tales from Space: Mutant Blobs Attack!," has a new game coming out next year. In anticipation of the upcoming PS Vita game, DrinkBox has revealed a new trailer, as well as information on gameplay, release date, and even a possible Vita cartridge release.
Writing in the PlayStation Blog, Drinkbox Chief Operating Officer Graham Smith announced the game's new trailer (video below). The trailer shows "Severed's" colorful, pastel-like art style and a gameplay that's more than just hacking off an enemy's limbs.
In this first-person dungeon-crawler, players will take control of a one-armed warrior named Sasha as she travels a surreal and dangerous world in search of her family. "Severed" will have plenty of monsters, but each one will have a different weakness so that players need to have a different strategy in dealing with each of them.
Sasha's weapon will be a "living sword" given to her by a mysterious cloaked creature. Players control the sword by swiping on the touch screen. The sword can be upgraded and changes in appearance throughout the game.
"Severed" is not a casual game, more of an RPG lite, says Graham. There are no character levels, only character equipments, powers, or upgrades.
The game will take about eight to 10 hours if players follow the main path. It will take more time if they want to discover all the secrets.
Graham has also revealed the possibility of the new game in PS Vita cartridge form. He said releasing all three games from their studio in a Vita cartridge "would be pretty cool," although whether this will actually push through remains to be seen.
"Severed" will be available as a demo at Sony's PlayStation Experience. Drinkbox Studios is in booth #2042, so those participating in the event can get over there and try the game out or get a chance to win free codes for "Guacamelee Super Turbo Championship Edition."
Drinkbox's latest PS Vita game does not have a confirmed release date yet.
